  • Captain Suresh, Kerala

On our houseboat Ammu, cruising the Kerala Backwaters in Cochin, South India

  • Cathrine Hancock, Varanasi

On train to Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh India, one of the holiest cities of the world, just before Christmas. 23 December 2009

  • Sister Sophie, Our Lady's Convent, Thopumpad Kochin

Met Sister Sophie selling some of the most gorgeous needle-worked tablecloths created by some of the local women that they help.

  • Captain Suresh at the helm of Ammu

  • Vivek - artist at the City Palace, Jaipur

It was quite a fascinating exchange with Vivek ... I found him in a large hall filled with numerous artists and craftsmen selling their wares .. the lights went out a few times and we found ourselves clutching our bags uncertain of what was happening ... when the panic was over I ended up chatting to Vivek about some of the gorgeous paintings he was selling (of which I bought a couple - only to have most stolen in Ranthambore). He was fascinated by my request to draw him - guess he was use to things working the other way.

  • On the Ganges in a boat watching the neverending ceremonies being performed.

  • Raj Bajaj - Delhi

  • Mumbai airport, waiting ...

    9.45pm, 2 January 2010

  • Mir, Fort Kochi

One of the entertaining characters of Kochi who we got to know. Mir and his family, originally from Kashmir own a collection of stores throughout the streets here and we would be quite surprised to come across him at different locations .... most of the stores in Kochi are run by Kashmirians.
